CLANE TROUT & SALMON
ANGLERS Association,
oNCE AGAIN IT IS MY PLEASURE TO PRESENT THIS YEARS ANNUAL REPORT.
Fellow Anglers
As we look forward to a new angling year it is with sadness that I and
many others look back on 2009.
The beginning of the season saw the sad passing of our Vice President
Harry Smith. Harry was a long standing member of Clane Anglers and in
recent years a valued and enthusiastic member of the committee. He was
an avid angler on both the Liffey and his beloved Mask, I am glad to say
that Harry was catching fish on the river on opening day 1st March 09,
unfortunately this was the last time he was to cast a fly on the liffey.
To try and capture the essence of Harry here as an angler, friend,
husband and father could not do justice to his memory, all I can say is
that those of us who fished with, spent time with and knew him will
understand. Perhaps the most enduring qualities of Harry that will
remain with me were his generosity and humour.
He had a great generosity of spirit and gave of his time and experience
to all whether prince or pauper and asked for nothing in return. He had
a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed immensely the banter and fun
among fellow anglers. He loved to quiz anglers for nuggets of
information and would then dissect it and come to his own conclusions.
He was a man who knew his own mind, and held dear principles that he
firmly believed in. But above all to me and too many others he was a
great friend and fishing companion and I can still hear him say when
getting ready for a fishing trip "you are better looking at it than for
it".
Harry we will miss you. R.I.P
( tribute by
chairman Terry walsh )
The committee have decided to rename the autunm cup competition in memory of harry smith. it will now be known as the harry smith memorial CUP
