DEAR MEMBER,

oNCE AGAIN IT IS MY PLEASURE TO PRESENT THIS YEARS ANNUAL REPORT.

March.

the water level on opening day was almost at summer levels and as a result quite a few members fished.  throughout the month the fishing was good. the weather was typical for the month cool with frequent showers.  Reports from members fishing during the month indicated that there was a good head 0f quality fish.

a work party carried out a clean up on the river , they also planted some trees along the riverbank. the river was fishable for most of the month as rainfall was light and there were no reports of artifical floods from turlough hill esb station.

APRIL.

during the second week of april the weather took a turn for the worst, falling temperatures and night frosts kept some members away from the river. the weather for most of the month was cool.

the new boat arrived on lough lene collinstown co. westmeath early in the month. you can book the boat by contacting tommy fagan on   086-1691231

The club also has a boat  moored on lough mask in caher bay FOR information on hiring this boat you can contact john Bradley on 087 - 9809039

THE  wet & dry COMPETITION was fished on the 20th. there was a very good turnout for this event with 14 members taking part. The weather on the day WAS VERY cold with a strong easterly wind.

THE olive HATCH did not begin until 3pm   however some competitors had fish BY then AND the hatch only helped them to reach the 4 fish bag limit.  peter doherty won the event with 4 fish (3lb 7 ozs)   tony DOHERTY took 2nd place (4fish 3lb 1ozs) and KEVIN dunne finished 3 rd ( 4 fish 2 lb 14ozs )

THE MONTH OF APRIL ON THE RIVER WAS FOR THE MOST PART PRODUCTIVE AND ENJOYABLE FOR MEMBERS WHO FISHED.

MAY.

THE GRaY CUP COMPETITION TOOK PLACE ON THE 5th. 12 members TURNED OUT FOR THE EVENT. it was a perfect fishing day overcast and warm. THE FISHING WAS GOOD AS RISING FISH WERE SEEN FOR LONG PERIODS . TONY DOHERTY  won the event with 4 fish (3lbs 10ozs) NORMAN MORROW took 2 nd (4 fish 3lbs 5 Ozs) and fintan cullen finished 3 rd  (3 fish 3lb 1 ozs )

the national was fished on Lough conn on sat 13 th . Clane had 4 members taking part.  The fishing was slow on the day and it was very much a case of being in the right place on the day. the returns for the day were poor and unfortunately the clane members did not qualify.

unlike the previous season the weather was very good for much of the month and As expected the fishing WAS excellent AND MANY MEMBERS were seen on the river enjoying the evening rise to yellow may duns and sedges.

JUNE.

aNGLING  PRESSURE WAS heavy for THE FIRST two  WEEKS OF THE MONTH .  there was a strong hatch of yellow may duns during this period and large numbers of fish were taken on this fly during the evening. however the better fish were taken on sedges during the evening rise

The weather prior to the  Michael o’ REILLY COMPETITION WAS mixed.  this competition was FISHED ON sat 7 TH .

13 members turned out on the night.  THE FISHING WAS difficult  throughout the evening. tHe EVENT WAS WON BY tony doherty  (1 FISH  1LB 12OZS)  2ND was peter doherty( 1 fish 1LB 6OZS ) AND Pat cleere FINISHED 3RD ( 1 FISH 1LB 5oZS )

THE LEINSTER CHAMPIONSHIP WAS FISHED ON LOUGH OWEL ON THE 8TH. clane had 9 members taking part. the weather for the first part of the day was good with cloud cover and a slight ripple.  reports suggest that most of the fish were landed during this period. the afternoon session was a different story.  flat calm conditions and hazy sunshine 22 anglers weighed in fish for 14 places. tony doherty qualified to fish the national .

the leinster river championship was host by clane in conjuction with D.T. A. A. ON THE 15TH   19 anglers took part on what was a good fishing day. the competition is run under international rules and rewards consistancey over two sessions. anglers are drawn to fish a particular beat for the morning session and then move to the next beat for the second session. as with any river certain beats can fish well as was the case on the day .the lower beats did not fish as well as the upper ones.three of the five qualifiers where drawn on the upper beats .  a total of 160 fish (20cm size limit) were recorded. 4 of the five qualifiers were  fishing for n. k. t.a.s.a.  paul dunne made up the five man leinster team. Our thanks to Tony doherty for the work his does in organising this event. ronnie miley and D.T.A.A. FOR THEIR COOPERATION AND TO SEAMUS MANZOR WHO PROVIDED THE REFRESHMENTS.

DESPITE THE FACT THAT JUNE WAS THE WETTEST SINCE RECORDS BEGAN THE EVENING FISHING REMAINED GOOD THROUGHOUT THE MONTH.

JULY.

The national rivers championship was hosted by N.K.S.T.A.A. ON THE 5TH.

JOHN HIGGINS OF N.K.S.t.A.A. WON THE EVENT

THE WEATHER CONTINUED IN THE SAME PATTERN AS JUNE .  HOWEVER MEMBERS WERE NOT Deterred FROM FISHING THE EVENING RISE AND THEY ENJOYED SOME EXCELLENT FISHING.

The Twilight competition was fished on the 12th. with 14 members taking part. THERE WAS A GOOD RISE ON THE NIGHT. dENIS GOULDING WON THis EVENT (4 fish 3lbs 13ozs) KEVIN DUNNE  tOOK  2nd PLACE (4 fish  3lbs  12ozs) and TONY DOHERTY FINISHED 3RD( 4 fish 3lbs 12ozs)

AUGUST.

The first week of the month brought very Heavy rain and unsettled weather which continued for the month.  fishing became difficult as the river was in constant flood. THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS FISHING WAS LIGHT DUE TO high water levels.

September .

The poor weather continued for the first three weeks and the scheduled autumn cup was postponed due to the high water level. few anglers were on the river during the month. the last week of the month saw a big improvement in the weather ,  with warm settled conditions

the postponed autumn competition was fished during this period (28th).

Tony  Doherty  won the event with 4 fish      ( 3lb 12ozs )  2nd  Pat Cleere with 3 fish  (2lb 7ozs) and  norman morrow  finished 3 rd 1 fish (1 lb 3 ozs)
