CLANE TROUT & SALMON ANGLERS
Association,
oNCE AGAIN IT IS MY PLEASURE TO PRESENT THIS YEARS ANNUAL REPORT.
March.
the water level on opening day was almost at summer levels and as a result quite a few members fished. throughout the month the fishing was good. the weather was typical for the month cool with frequent showers. Reports from members fishing during the month indicated that there was a good head 0f quality fish.
a work party carried out a clean up on the river , they also planted some trees along the riverbank. the river was fishable for most of the month as rainfall was light and there were no reports of artifical floods from turlough hill esb station.
during the second week of april the weather took a turn for the worst, falling temperatures and night frosts kept some members away from the river. the weather for most of the month was cool.
the new boat arrived on lough lene collinstown co. westmeath early in the month. you can book the boat by contacting tommy fagan on 086-1691231
The club also has a boat moored on lough mask in caher bay FOR information on hiring this boat you can contact john Bradley on 087 - 9809039

the national was fished on Lough conn on sat 13 th . Clane had 4 members taking part. The fishing was slow on the day and it was very much a case of being in the right place on the day. the returns for the day were poor and unfortunately the clane members did not qualify.
unlike the previous season the weather was very good for much of the month and As expected the fishing WAS excellent AND MANY MEMBERS were seen on the river enjoying the evening rise to yellow may duns and sedges.
aNGLING PRESSURE WAS heavy for THE FIRST two WEEKS OF THE MONTH . there was a strong hatch of yellow may duns during this period and large numbers of fish were taken on this fly during the evening. however the better fish were taken on sedges during the evening rise

the leinster river championship was host by clane in conjuction with D.T. A. A. ON THE 15TH 19 anglers took part on what was a good fishing day. the competition is run under international rules and rewards consistancey over two sessions. anglers are drawn to fish a particular beat for the morning session and then move to the next beat for the second session. as with any river certain beats can fish well as was the case on the day .the lower beats did not fish as well as the upper ones.three of the five qualifiers where drawn on the upper beats . a total of 160 fish (20cm size limit) were recorded. 4 of the five qualifiers were fishing for n. k. t.a.s.a. paul dunne made up the five man leinster team. Our thanks to Tony doherty for the work his does in organising this event. ronnie miley and D.T.A.A. FOR THEIR COOPERATION AND TO SEAMUS MANZOR WHO PROVIDED THE REFRESHMENTS.
